Yemen
At least 20 people were killed on Tuesday when a Saudi-led military coalition carried out air strikes on Yemen’s capital Sanaa. It was the first attack in 5 months.
The air raids hit a privately owned food factory near a military base believed to have been the target. The military base was however not hit.
Many of the dead are said to be young women who were working in the factory at the time of the strike. Medics who visited the scene said many workers remained unaccounted for.
Rescue workers have been searching through the debris for survivors and bodies of the dead.
“More than 20 workers were killed, not counting those that are still unaccounted for (because of) Al Saud (the Saudi ruling family), the Jews,” said Ali Mohammed, a factory worker.
Tuesday’s raid which comes after UN-brokered peace talks collapsed at the weekend, also targeted a presidential compound and a republican guard base near the airport, as part of an offensive by Hadi’s government to retake the capital and other areas seized by Shite Houthi rebels.
